I hadn’t heard of Mari prior to WWDC 2013, but this is clearly such an important tool these days across a range of industries, for making it possible to add incredible detail to 3D objects.

This special WWDC session hosted by The Foundry (makers of Mari) and Pixar is also a must watch if you’re even remotely interested in how this process works in the background, and the challenges they have to contend with.

I went through this education system myself and while it has its benefits, it clearly has some significant faults.

The Pilot disposable fountain pen: It’s smooth, the ink dries quickly and is generally quite satisfying.

All of this for only £2 (Amazon link).

On the notebook front, it’s the Rhodia A5 side stapled notebooks. Amazon (link) carry these as packs of 10 — which is quite a good way to stock up, especially since each notebook is only 96 pages.

Now this is interesting.

Over the last couple of months I’ve started using the Moves app on my iPhone to help log my movements and travels. While it does put a strain on the battery, it feels like it’s worth it.

A long way to go before I’m anywhere near having a personal API though.

I’ve started the process of working my way through 1Password and identifying all known weak passwords.

Key thing to take away from this excellent piece by Ars:

In the meantime, readers should take pains to make sure their passwords are a minimum of 11 characters, contain upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and letters, and aren’t part of a pattern.

Pen Addict

I’ve always been fond of pens and notepads. However, since discovering the Pen Addict podcast things have certainly picked up pace.

I’m also starting to re-discover the beauty of fountain pens, and can’t quite work out why I’ve compromised with sub-par ball point and roller ball pens for so long.

The Rhodia range of notebooks is my current preference; they’re well made, use a generous paper weight, are affordable, and offer a wide range of choices.

Workflowy to Evernote

Starting today I’ve cancelled my Workflowy Premium account and will try and make it work with Evernote.

I like how easy it is to capture notes from all my devices into Evernote, and how well it works to capture photos of my paper notebook and store it alongside other relevant notes.

The addition of the reminders feature in Evernote’s latest release (link) definitely helped swing the balance as well.

I’m currently using Scanner Pro which is a quick and relatively painless way to get scans of documents into Evernote.
